Administration

Veldorah Rice

Veldorah Rice is the owner of Write from the Heart. Veldorah holds three BA degrees in English, History, and Communication from Grove City College and a dual MA degree in English and Film Studies from University of Pittsburgh. She is the administrator of all aspects of the company including website maintenance, student enrollment, coach oversight, and development of new classes. In her free time, Veldorah loves to travel and work in the film industry as a producer and art director.

Basic Composition

Katie WingertKatie Wingert is a graduate of Messiah College with a B.A. in English with Secondary Education, and is currently candidate for her Ed.M. in Language and Literacy at Harvard University. Her hobbies include swimming, reading, and watching sports with her fiance. Herself a Write From the Heart alumna, Katie's passion is in empowering students to, in the words of Ann Berthoff, "make meaning of chaos" and discover life-giving glimpses of truth that matter both on the page and beyond.

Intermediate Composition

Stephanie ConstantinoStephanie Constantino has earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education with a focus on teaching ELA. She's originally from California, but, since she became an army wife, she has moved around the country quite a bit. When she isn't busy teaching, she loves to spend her time hiking, browsing through used bookstores, or trying out new recipes. Stephanie currently lives in North Carolina with her husband and her two children.

Veldorah RiceVeldorah Rice is so grateful to be raising her son in the same hometown that she grew up in herself. She holds several Bachelor of Arts degrees from Grove City College and a Master of Arts degree from University of Pittsburgh. When she isn’t writing or Skyping with her daughter in Latvia, she fills her days with walks with the family dog, Makai, knitting with friends, making movies and commercials with local film companies, and pretending to be a movie and television critic.


Composition Coaches

Abigail SalyardsAbigail Salyards lives on a farm in the mountains of Bedford County, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Clarion University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Library Science. She worked as a children's librarian, one of her dream jobs, for a few years. Now she is raising a son, studying herbalism and trying to keep up with the excitement of farm life. Needless to say, she loves writing and reading and is excited to be involved in Write from the Heart, the class that taught her to enjoy good literature not too long ago.

AP English and Independent Study

Veldorah RiceThe AP® English class and Customized Independent Study class are both taught by Veldorah Rice. Herself an eclectic learner, Veldorah is uniquely qualified to teach students in a wide variety of subject areas. She holds three Bachelor of Arts degrees from Grove City College in English, History, and Communication and a dual Master of Arts degree in English and Film Studies from University of Pittsburgh. She has taught at both the high school and collegiate level in all of these subject areas. Veldorah currently also teaches part-time at a local community college and freelances as a producer and art director in the film industry.

Curriculum Authors

Veldorah RiceVeldorah Rice Veldorah Rice first developed high school classes for Write from the Heart as a way for homeschooled students to discuss literature and write about it in a group setting. Veldorah holds three Bachelor of Arts degrees in English, History, and Communication and a dual Master of Arts degree in English and Film Studies. In 2013, she was asked to be part of the Alliance for Young Artists and Writer's Educator Advisory Group, composed of nine educators who have demonstrated leadership and dedication to the program.


The Basic Composition classes were originally created by Denise Botsford, who founded Write from the Heart in 2005. Denise has since retired.
